DESIGN PHILOSOPHY & PROCESS
Pearl Contractor offers a bespoke design service, that revolves completely around the client. Despite being extremely well-resourced in the field of interior design, she involves the user of the space at every level of the process, disliking the school of thought that rides rough shod over the client and templates design for all spaces. She believes that “every space and person has a DNA…
of its own” her aim is to capture the client’s personality while blending it with the potential of the space such that the space responds to the people living or working within it.
Her interiors exude comfort, style and sophistication; each space feels easily immersive and desirable, effortless and luxurious. Spaces she designs are created to have flexibility to mature and develop over time with clients’ changing needs and the fashions of time. Working hard not to have a branded style, but focusing on comfort, and creating balance in a room which is visually stimulating and architecturally suited, she has an exacting eye for detail, balancing luxury and practicality, proportion, suitability, simplicity and creating unique original spaces.
INSPIRATIONS AND KEY STRENGTHS
Pearl Contractor is inspired by what she calls, ‘things which are natural and inherently beautiful, hand crafted items made with skills learned handed down over generations’. This respect for hand-crafted work and tradition imbues all she does with her innate respect for the space, in gratitude for the gifts of art and craft that she works with to create spaces for people to enjoy…
She sees herself as someone who has deep learnings from history, from others and her own experiences, adding, “being inspired by Nature and the creations of other good designers always finds a place in my creative process. As creative persons we need to constantly top-up on things that inspire so that we can always give our best!”
Apart from the wealth of experience and learning that Pearl Contractor brings to each project, it is her deep respect for the client themselves that fully identifies her design conversation. She says, “I firmly believe that a home is a reflection of the people who live in it and hence I don’t force anything on the client : not views, style or aesthetic.”
Partnership with the client
Over the years of working with a range of high end clients, Pearl Contractor sees each relationship as a partnership where she gently guides each client to attain the home they aspire to, with the professional’s eye for perfection and the artists’ eye for beauty.
SIMPLE GEOMETRIES, OPULENT INTERIORS
Pearl Contractor loves what she calls ‘the simple geometric aesthetic of Art Deco buildings’ but equally the opulence and grandeur that the period itself denotes. In her work…
Pearl has matched the elegance and simplicity of this design aesthetic with her own, always with the dreams and aspirations of the client in mind, to create interior spaces that are warm and welcoming while adding an element of luxury and lavishness to each, for an unforgettable experience.
VISION IN THE STARS, FEET ON THE GROUND
Perhaps most importantly, she sees herself as a practical person, a typical embodiment of keeping ones vision in the stars but ones feet firmly on the ground…
In typically self-deprecating style, Pearl describes herself as, “extremely practical and honest, being able to fully understand and fulfill any clients requirements within the given constraints of site, requirements and budget.” Bringing the best of all worlds to the table, Pearl Contractor has had the best exposure with education at prestigious schools overseas, years of experience in India and overseas, team capabilities, product knowledge, luxury world class exposure, but with an intrinsically Indian vision to encourage and promote Indian work in her projects.
“Pearl looked into all possible (and impossible) details of our home, spending time in understanding the family dynamics and requirements of space and traffic flow. Using a monochromatic palette, she played with materials and textures to orchestrate an elegant understated drama. She painstakingly created bespoke table bases and pedestals that are truly one of a kind. Continuous and lengthy site visits with kind words of encouragement to push the team and indefatigable visits to marble suppliers, imported furniture stores and lighting showrooms…many hardworking hours later the home was delivered as promised in time for the Diwali puja. The home had an expansive sea view which was heroed throughout the design process, accentuating the line of sight from wherever one was, to the vision beyond.”
“What makes your home get that extra edge of satisfaction is the relationship the designer builds with you. Being aligned is just the beginning. What makes the end result a ‘wow‘ is when the designer listens to you, reflects on you and manages to extract your ideas and re-present them to you skillfully and aesthetically. Pearl is that kind of designer – hugely creative, practical and a perfectionist without a dissonant note.”
“Pearl was amazing to work with she takes all that the client wants to heart, is very responsive to changes and design. Time was an important factor and she did not miss any deadlines in spite of the fact that we live in the US. If any changes were requested they would be made in a day or two and sent along with new pricing to us.”
“It is said that ‘design is intelligence made visible’. Pearl’s design approach reflects this thought admirably. Clean lines, harmonious colours, subtle style mixers deliver uncluttered, breathing, living spaces.”
“Seldom do you come across designers who are so well versed with creating the full classical home interior that I have always dreamed of. We were clear that we wanted the feeling of grandiosity of an English Villa. Pearl sourced all the furniture, recreated all the architectural elements and elaborately finished all the curtains and soft finishes. Her knowledge and skills perfectly recreated our dreams!”
“Our family of architects and designers all had very definite views! Pearl was able to diplomatically blend and create spaces for us that have met with our every expectation. She adapted and accepted areas we did not wish to rip apart but recreated the old with a contemporary twist that has kept us happily married! Her interiors are pleasing and practical.”
